Is it Fall yet?

Lots to talk about today! First: one of the reasons I moved to Arizona was because I hate cold weather (I'll seriously be happy if I never have to own a heavy jacket again). However, I am a little jealous of all you guys that get to dress like it's fall; my tights and boots are just begging to be worn. Meanwhile it's still 100 degrees here and I'm having to buy more shorts because I don't have enough (these that I'm wearing were only $2.50!)

Secondly, I met my first fellow-blogger this past week! If you guys haven't stopped by Threads and Buttons, you totally should. Kelley and I went thrifting in Sun City, which is a retirement community (we were seriously the youngest people around for miles). We were bad bloggers and didn't take any pictures unfortunately, but it was still a blast. Check out her post here to read more!

Finally, thank you guys so much for all your advice in my last post about my first day of work! I think I finally know what I'm gonna wear (it's only changed about six times) and I can't wait to share with you guys how everything goes!

Thrifted

There's a special addition of Everybody, Everywear going on today where everyone is showing off their favorite thrifted items. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to focus on and finally narrowed it down to this silk shirt.

Tops like these usually don't have a lot of hanger appeal because of how boxy they are. But they're actually pretty versatile and oh-so comfortable. I mean, why isn't everything I own made of silk? That's right, because I'm poor. Thank goodness for thrift stores.

The grass is always greener

This is the golf course behind my parent's house. Now you know why I was so in awe of how green Tennessee was.

In other news, something about the summer (and probably the studying too) makes me want to put the least amount of effort possible in doing my hair. During the school year I rarely wore my hair up, but it's just been so much easier to do so lately. (This tutorial from Keiko Lynn is my favorite if you are hair-challenged like I am)

Three ways to wear: blue pencil skirt

When I first thrifted this skirt I could only think of simple, professional ways to wear it. (Like with a white button-down, like I did with a dark purple skirt here) I included it in my 30 items, however, because I thought it had potential to be worn more ways, specifically more casually this summer.

Anyway, I liked doing the 'three ways to wear' post so much last week that I thought I'd do it again. Hope you enjoy it too!

I still feel like there are endless remixing opportunities with this skirt, especially once I have access to the rest of my closet after the challenge! (See also how Kendi has styled a similar skirt here and here)

*I also swapped out one of my cardigans for the t-shirt in the top outfit. (It's on sale here by the way) I'm not sure what I was thinking before because sweaters are the last thing I want to wear in this heat.

Three ways to wear: black dress

It's easy to get into ruts when it comes to a particular piece of clothing. For example, I usually wear this black dress from Express with a belt and a simple necklace and that's it (example). Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I know that I'm really limiting myself by only wearing such a potentially versatile dress one way. So I'm taking a cue from Tania and sharing three other ways to wear it.

This was probably the easiest remixing I've ever done; I just switched out one accessory and the shoes! (Have I mentioned how much I love scarves by the way?) I almost can't believe this dress has been in my closet this long and I hadn't really tried anything different until now. I'm sure you'll see several more ways to wear it as this challenge moves along!

Risk taking

Can you believe it's almost July?? It honestly freaks me out because I swear just yesterday I was panicking how it was June already.

Anyway, I'm usually not much of a pattern-mixer, but I really liked pairing this printed scarf with something other than just a white v-neck. And I know I'm definitely not the first to wear florals with stripes or anything, but in my little hometown, I still felt like a risk taker.

Sharing

Pacsun tank; Old Navy skirt; Thrifted belt; Target wedges.

This skirt is kind of an odd color, which is why it hasn't gotten much wear so far. It's not quite grey, not quite purple. On the tag it says 'mauve', but I'm not sure if that's right either. In any case it goes with this tank at least, so that's good enough for me I guess.

In other news, I did Zumba last night with a bunch of middle-aged women and they seriously put me to shame...who knew I was that uncoordinated? Or that I could produce so much sweat in just an hour? (Too much sharing?)

I think I'm just going to admit defeat and say that I have no idea what to write about other than I really like these flared jeans and I'm glad I finally got a pair.

Maybe it's because I have property, plant and equipment and non-accelerated depreciation methods on the brain instead...aren't you jealous of my life?

Lady-like.

Express shirt; Thrifted skirt and belt; Target wedges; LinleyShea necklace.

I have no idea what this thing is that I'm standing on, but it's next to the library on campus and I was there today returning some books (only a week late). I'm pretty sure I've never turned in a library book in on time, but luckily for me, on campus they don't have fines.

Anyway, I thought to put these colors together after seeing this post by Kendi. I figured it was close enough. I've also never had a skirt this length before, it makes me feel very lady-like. I think part of getting older (and maybe the whole-getting a master's degree) makes me want to dress more modestly and over all more grown-up. Do you guys get like that too? At what point do you throw away the graphic t-shirts and mini-skirts? Not that I have a lot of those anyway, but still.

Shopping

Thrifted top and belt; Old Navy pants; Target wedges.

I had a couple really awesome shopping trips last week, and this outfit is the result of that. I left Savers with silk tops in almost every color of the rainbow (go here if you haven't already heard me rave about those). And then on Saturday Old Navy had some kind of sale where all their sale bottoms were $6...so I bought quite a few pants, skirts and shorts.

I also bought a trench coat last week from Target for $12....never mind that I live in the desert and am moving to a city even more in the desert....it was $12!

And just to further emphasize how good of a shopping week last week was...I found coconut M&Ms at Target and bought 4 bags. I probably need them less than I need a trench coat but they're SO GOOD. And they'll probably be gone before school is out (11 more days!).

PS. Did you have a good Easter? I pretty much ate my body weight in ham and deviled eggs.

Today's post is brought to you by the letter B

So, first things first, I passed my orals! Holy moly am I glad that's over.

Secondly, I don't know what the letter B is for. But my roommate had it in her car (it was a prop from work) and for some reason I got excited and I just HAD to pose with it like my name was Brittany or Brianne and I was taking my senior pictures.

If that disappoints you, feel free to imagine that it stands for something meaningful like blog, or balance sheet, or...bacon. If you can think of something cooler you win a prize!*

Aaaand I'm a little sleep deprived but on the upside 19 days until graduation!

*You won't actually win a prize :(

Ch-Check it out

IMG_0317

I'm super excited because today I'm guest posting over at Honestly Kristen! Kristen is awesome because 1) She's super sweet and funny, and 2) Her corporate style is exactly how I want to dress when I grow up. And by grow up, I mean in October when I start my new job. Anyway, go check out her blog and my post!
