Oh hey, an outfit post!

Target tank and sneakers; Old Navy shorts; Thrifted scarf; Pacsun bracelet (bottom); Handmade bracelet (top).

Not really sure where the last few weeks have gone...that was kind of an unintentional hiatus there. You haven't missed much though, I promise. Just lots of studying and a quick trip to Seattle, which I'll probably do a separate post on.

Speaking of studying, I take my second (out of 4) test next Wednesday! I can't wait to get it over with because I'm taking about a month off after that to get ready to move and then settle in before starting a new job in October! Also, studying is just not that fun in general.

Anyway, this is one of the few times you'll see me in sneakers, but I couldn't find my red flats and I'd forgotten how comfy these were!

Three ways to wear: shorts and a t-shirt

Also see: how to wear the same thing every day and have it be socially acceptable.

Basically, when I'm home all day by myself studying, the last thing I really want to think about is getting dressed, so I almost always grab a white v-neck and a pair of shorts. But every once in a while I venture out to Walmart, or Chili's, or some other fine establishment in town where I want to look a little more put together. Enter: accessories. And no one knows the difference.

Bowing out early

IMG_0998
19/30 Target button-down; Gap (thrifted) shorts; Thrifted scarf and shoes.

I was originally going to try and recreate this adorable outfit that I saw over on A Pretty Penny, but these shorts are pretty high-waisted, and not in a cute way (mom-shorts come to mind), so I left the shirt untucked, and I ended up liking how it looked with the scarf belting the shirt instead of the shorts.

In other news, I'm toying with the idea of ending the 30 for 30 a little early. It's just been hard this summer while studying and all I want to wear is easy, comfy outfits, and it's been difficult to do so with a limited closet. I'm thinking I'll do another three ways to wear post and that'll be it, so it'll be more of a 27 for 22, since I haven't worn all the items yet anyway. It doesn't have as nice of a ring to it, but I hope you'll forgive me anyway.

In other other news, 8 days until I take FAR*, eeeeek!

*That's the Financial Accounting and Reporting portion of the CPA exam....in case you're not an accountant and also can't read my mind.

Three ways to wear: blue pencil skirt

When I first thrifted this skirt I could only think of simple, professional ways to wear it. (Like with a white button-down, like I did with a dark purple skirt here) I included it in my 30 items, however, because I thought it had potential to be worn more ways, specifically more casually this summer.

Anyway, I liked doing the 'three ways to wear' post so much last week that I thought I'd do it again. Hope you enjoy it too!

13/30 Charlotte Russe shirt; Target flats.

14/30 Express shirt; Thrifted scarf (worn as belt); Payless sandals.

I still feel like there are endless remixing opportunities with this skirt, especially once I have access to the rest of my closet after the challenge! (See also how Kendi has styled a similar skirt here and here)

*I also swapped out one of my cardigans for the t-shirt in the top outfit. (It's on sale here by the way) I'm not sure what I was thinking before because sweaters are the last thing I want to wear in this heat.

Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July! I'd love to be able to say that I spent my holiday weekend doing fun things, but for the most part I spent it chained to my desk, reading about derivatives and hedging (jealous of my life much?). I do plan on at least catching a fireworks show though.

Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic holiday (or if it isn't a holiday for you, a fantastic day in general), and if you live in a dry area like I do, please pretty please be careful when shooting off fireworks!

Socially acceptable

10/30 Target shirt; Old Navy shorts; Thrifted scarf; payless sandals.

Ever have one of those days where you don't feel like washing your hair, putting on makeup, or finishing turning those ripped pants into shorts (mostly because I can't decide what length to make them). Well, that's me today. I'd like to think that adding a scarf makes it socially acceptable though.

Risk taking

5/30 Banana Republic shirt; Old Navy shorts; Thrifted scarf; Target wedges.

Can you believe it's almost July?? It honestly freaks me out because I swear just yesterday I was panicking how it was June already.

Anyway, I'm usually not much of a pattern-mixer, but I really liked pairing this printed scarf with something other than just a white v-neck. And I know I'm definitely not the first to wear florals with stripes or anything, but in my little hometown, I still felt like a risk taker.

And then disaster struck.

3/30 Express v-neck; Old Navy pants; Thrifted belt and scarf; Payless wedges.

You guys left some awesome feedback yesterday for being better at walking in these wedges. Apparently though, I still haven't had enough practice because right in the middle of taking pictures for this outfit, disaster struck.

I completely busted in the middle of my driveway, and tore up my knee, and these pants. My knee is fine (I'll probably be rocking a band-aid tomorrow) but I'm not sure what to do about the hole in these pants....I'm thinking I'll try and convert them into shorts, but we'll see.

Anyway, I originally meant for this post to be about how awesome my headband is, and how I'm finally figuring out more ways to wear all the scarves that I've accumulated so...just focus on that I guess.

Rinse, wear, repeat.

Express t-shirt and jeans; Target flats; Thrifted scarf and belt.

I wear some variation of this outfit a lot. In fact, on the days that I'm not posting an outfit, the odds are pretty good that I'm wearing skinny jeans, a white t-shirt, and a scarf. My collection of scarves is getting pretty gigantic...it was already growing pretty fast with all my trips to Savers, and then a few weeks ago my step-mom brought home about 50 scarves from a garage sale for only like $8. Needless to say I won't be repeating any for a while.

Do you guys have a 'go-to' outfit when you're in a hurry or just feeling lazy in general?

Pink, grey, and blue.

Maurices t-shirt; Thrifted scarf; Target skirt; Wet Seal belt; Payless flats.

I'm gonna keep this post short and sweet tonight because I'm exhausted. I spent 9 hours today working on a group project due tomorrow and then another hour tutoring MBA students. (I taught them how to balance). Pretty much my Thursday night "networking" at the bar cannot come soon enough.

In outfit-related news, I really liked all the springy colors in this outfit! And I seriously have an addition to buying these square scarves at Savers (it was windy so the first picture is the only one were it's laying correctly). See also here, here and here; and there's at least 7 or 8 more that haven't debuted on the blog yet. I'm sure there's a limit to how many a person should own, but when they're only a dollar or two it's pretty hard to resist.

And I said this would be short so I'm stopping now. My bed is definitely calling my name.

Productivity

Ann Taylor dress (thrifted); Target tights; Kohl's boots; Thrifted scarf (worn as a belt).

This is me finally getting creative with my scarves. Aren't you guys proud?

As much as I'd like to be writing this post from a beach, or somewhere exotic, I'm actually doing it from my apartment....in my pajamas.

It's okay though, I've really been enjoying staying home and doing productive things this weekend like cuddling with my cat and playing Angry Birds.

My other plans for the week include cleaning out my closet, beating my high score on DoodleJump, and maybe, if I get really bored, doing some homework.

Oh well. How was your weekend?

Wednesday, March 2

A pre-birthday post.

IMG_0194
Express t-shirt; American Eagle jeans; Target shoes; Thrifted scarf.

It's a one picture kind of day. You guys know how that is.

I also feel like I've worn this outfit before. It's just that white v-neck + square scarf is so easy. And I've accumulated so many scarves and this is the only way I know how to wear them. (Any other suggestions?)

In other news, tomorrow is my birthday! Being about to graduate with a master's degree makes me feel really old sometimes, but I'm actually only turning 22.

If you really can't help yourself, I accept gifts in the form of cupcakes and cash =]

TGI-Thursday

IMG_0152

IMG_0150
Express t-shirt; Pacsun jeans; Payless shoes; Thrifted scarf; Watch gift from my mom.

Thank goodness it's Thursday. They're like my Fridays, but also my longest days of the week. I'm usually at school from around 10 to 4:30, and then I have honor society-related stuff from 6 to almost midnight sometimes. It's dinner, then our meeting, then the bar (which is hard work too, okay? It's called networking).

Anyway, do you ever have those days where you really just want to wear jeans and a t-shirt? Well I have that every day. But I'm finding that just by adding an accessory like a vintage scarf, it looks like I actually put some thought into what I was wearing.

But between you and me, I just picked the one on top of the pile.

So this is the new year

I hope you all had a fantastic New Year's! I sure did. So much, in fact, that I neglected to take very many pictures. Whoops. At least you can tell how awesome and sparkly my tights are.

So this is the new year
Urban Outfitters dress; JC Penney tights.

We spent the night drinking the stuff below, and made pretzels and enchiladas instead of the fondue. And we didn't have confetti, but sometime after midnight people started throwing popcorn. I don't know why.
So this is the new year

When I stop and think about it, 2010 was a pretty big year for me.

I received a Bachelor of Accountancy

I started grad school (and got my first 4.0 since high school)

I turned 21

I went to Las Vegas, Orlando, Seattle, and San Francisco

I went through what seemed like countless amounts of interviews....and then landed my dream job

I also started a blog--and successfully completed the 30 for 30 challenge

2011 is going to be another big year for me.

I'll be receiving a Master of Accountancy

I'll be starting said dream job in the fall, in a new city

I'll also be taking the CPA exam

I'm so excited to see what else this year will have in store for me.

I was also thinking about resolutions, and I honestly couldn't have put it into any better words than when Kristen talked about The Beautiful Project. I can get really hard on myself sometimes, and this year I'm going to remind myself that while I can't always be perfect, I'm more than good enough just the way that I am.

I'd also like to stop eating candy for breakfast and clean my room once in a while, but let's take one thing at a time, shall we?

Here in this diary

Everyone, I'm pleased to introduce pictures from my new camera. Pictures from my new camera, this is everyone.

I got a shiny new PowerShot for Christmas, and so I no longer have to use borrowed cameras to take my outfit pictures! This is very exciting, also because I need to do a better job of documenting my life. That's one of the reasons that I started this blog to begin with, because I realized the only pictures taken the whole time I've been in college are ones tagged on facebook, and while I used to always keep a diary, that eventually stopped around my junior year.

Anyway, it's nice to have a new medium to be able to look back on and not only see what I was wearing, but where I was in my life.

Sunday, December 12

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

Okay, first things first. I might want to move here.

Secondly, I always forget to take pictures. I'll work on it the next few days, but here's a couple of me the boyfriend snapped today to hold you over:

photo-35

I solved my packing problem by deciding on a uniform for the week:

Sweater + Scarf + Belt + Jeans + Boots = Outfit. It's not the most exciting, but it works.

I haven't done any shopping just yet, only browsing. And by browsing I mean drooling over everything in Anthropologie before the boyfriend dragged me out. I definitely plan on returning later this week though.

Tomorrow we're going on a chocolate tour, which I'm very excited for, and hopefully I'll remember to take pictures of that so you can all be jealous. I promise to eat a piece for each and every one of you :)

Packing is hard

We're leaving tomorrow for San Francisco, and I'm soooo excited!

Want to know what I'm not excited about though? Packing. I just have a really hard time committing to only taking certain things with me. It's only for 6 days, but what if I pack my cognac boots, and on day 4 I really really want to wear my black boots? Or what if I spill coffee on myself every morning and run out of clothes on day 3 because I only brought 6 outfits? It's a lot of pressure. Maybe if I think of it as a mini-30 for 30 it'll be easier. I'll call it 'However-many-items-Lydia-can-cram-in-a-suitcase-for-6.

Or maybe I'll just bring an empty suitcase and do a lot of shopping.

Speaking of shopping, since being done with the 30 for 30, I've bought one belt from Salvation Army for $1, and yesterday I bought paisley Steve Madden flats from Goodwill that might not go with anything but I don't care because they were $4. I also donated a big pile of clothes too.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Tough act to follow (25 and 26)

So, I was really proud of yesterday's outfit, and I'm so glad you all liked it too! I think that's the most comments that I've ever gotten on a single post.

Unfortunately, I've been studying and doing homework like a maniac the past couple of days, and since it gets dark so early now these next outfits are of the slightly blurry, indoor lighting variety. Hopefully you won't hold it against me. (It's better than me trying to describe them to you, right?)

25
Old Navy cardigan; Pacsun tank (it's an undershirt, doesn't count, right?)and jeans; Wet Seal boots; Target scarf (won over at Bon Chic Bon Gastronomique)
25

I also need to remove the tag from my scarf, it looks like.

26
Wet Seal cardigan and scarf; Maurices shirt; Pacsun jeans; Wet Seal boots (same as above)

In other news, I've added a nifty gadget over there on the side where you can ask me anything on Formspring. Because I'm sure you guys have burning questions...right?

Sunday, November 28

Twenty, twenty, twenty four hours to go

24
Wet Seal jacket; Charlotte Russe blazer and dress; DKNY tights; Ross belt; Kohl's boots; Scarf borrowed from my brother.
24

It was freezing outside, but I just had to show off my scarf-belting skills underneath all those layers. My brother has an awesome scarf collection, and so I took advantage of it as much as I could while I was home.

24

24

I'm also very obsessed with these boots, as you can probably tell. This challenge should have just been called "30 ways that Lydia remixes her awesome cognac boots", and it probably wouldn't have differed that much. (Except for my purple-y pink shoes worn here and here, I'm definitely glad I included those).

In other news, only one more week of school, one week of finals, and then this semester is over! I seriously cannot wait, and then I just have one more semester to go until I graduate, and become a grown-up, or something.
